Are you looking for a pumpkin art activity that you can display year after year? This is so fun to make and the finished product is beautiful! Here’s a step-by-step tutorial for making a melted crayon pumpkin craft.

1. Gather your pumpkin and supplies

Here is what you need to complete this pumpkin art activity.

• A pumpkin: I use fake pumpkins for this activity because I save it and display it year after year. I also like to use white because the colors pop so much! You can get a variety of sizes on Amazon. Here are some links to small crafting pumpkins, large crafting pumpkins, and a variety bundle!

• Crayons: Grab some broken crayons in a variety of colors
• Hot Glue Gun: You’ll need a hot glue gun to set this pumpkin art activity up.

• Blow Dryer: You’ll need a blow dryer to actually melt the crayons

2. Setting Up Your Pumpkin Art Activity

Now you have to set it all up! It’s super simple. Peel the paper off the crayons, I enlist the kids to do this task….it speeds up the process and it’s great fine motor work.

Then use the hot glue gun to attach the crayons around the stem of the pumpkin.

Now Comes the Fun Part of the Pumpkin Art Activity!

Now you are ready to make your pumpkin art activity! Children will hold a blow dryer over the crayons and watch as they start to melt and drip the wax down the sides.

From experience, have something under the pumpkin or do this outside because you will get some wax (color) on the floor. Also, you must hold the blowdryer very close to the crayons for them to start to melt.

Children can keep going until they like the look of their pumpkin art activity! The wax dries very quickly so you can display it immediately.

Here’s an easy to make snowflake craft that works for kids of all ages. It’s a fun winter activity that doesn’t require many materials. Keep reading to see how!

I did this salted snowflake craft with my toddler and preschooler one cold day. It ended up keeping them busy for much longer than I expected, which is always a win in my book! Let me walk you through the steps to this easy snowflake craft.

Materials for Salted Snowflake Craft

This winter craft didn’t require very many materials. All I needed was:

1. Paper (with snowflakes drawn or printed on them)
2. Liquid glue
3. Salt
4. Watercolor paint and paintbrushes (optional)

How to Make Salted Snowflakes

I printed snowflakes onto white cardstock and gave one piece to each child. I then instructed them to do their best tracing of the snowflake using liquid glue. To be clear, I did not expect my 1.5-year-old to do this. In fact, when she started making puddles of glue on her paper, it was exactly what I anticipated from her. I would show you pictures, but she also refused to wear a shirt that day (if you follow me on Instagram you know this a typical day with Brielle).

After tracing one snowflake at a time with glue, we poured salt on top. I had my son do this over a large aluminum tray so that I could then funnel out that excess salt to reuse on his next snowflake.

Once we finished covering our snowflakes with salt, we decided to paint them. This step isn’t necessary because they do look really cool with just the salt. However, this extra step entertained my littles for an extra 30 plus minutes.

In my mind, they were going to use very light colors and have pristine looking snowflakes. In their minds, they were going to mix every color paint we had in the house and make gigantic messes.

But I’m a firm believer in letting kids lead the way with creative tasks and activities. It’s no fun for anyone if I’m micromanaging them during craft time. It’s also not a reflection of them or something I’d want to save if I told them EXACTLY what to do and how to do it. And in the end they came out looking great anyway.

It’s hard to tell in the picture but the salt underneath the paint gives a really nice sparkle to the finished product. Overall, this snowflake craft was easy to set-up and engaging for my kids. I will definitely be doing this again!
