5 Ways for Teachers to Make the Most Out of School Breaks

Teacher tips for making the most out of school breaks. Utilizing our time off, getting chores down and recharging so we don't suffer from teacher burn out

As teachers we are so incredibly lucky to have breaks from work. I feel like I am always looking forward to the next break, and then it comes….and poof…it’s over! If you’re anything like me you create this crazy to-do list for each break, and you either spend the entire time doing annoying chores OR you do none of it and feel incredibly guilty. So after many many breaks like this, I’ve finally found a happy medium. Here are my 5 quick tips for making the most of your school breaks.

We all have things we have to do over break that we dread. My advice to you is to do these things first! You might not want to spend the first day or two of break doing them, but you will feel so much better when you can check them off your list. This will also allow you to have some guilt free down time later in the week.
If you have kids, keep their childcare plan in place, even if it’s only for a day or two. I used to feel guilty sending my son to daycare when I didn’t have work.  Then I realized the importance of self-care and knew if I wanted to be the best mom to him, I had to take care of myself also. So allowing myself some time is okay! I get to re-charge, which is absolutely essential. Which leads me to my next tip.
What do you love to do but rarely have time for? For me, it’s getting a massage or one of those special pedicures that take longer. It’s important to use our breaks to do something for ourselves. We deserve it!!
Now that you’ve found time to get your chores done, relax, and do something special for yourself, plan something for your family. Maybe a trip to the zoo or aquarium. If the weather is bad you can check out your local library for any special events they might have. Making family memories is priceless and school breaks is the perfect time to do this.
Lastly, have a pajama day! Find one day to spend the entire day in pajamas! Watch movies, eat junk food, and just be a couch potato!
Now that I’ve shared my 5 tips to a successful school break, share some of your favorite things to do when you have off in the comments!
