Using Beanie Babies to teach reading strategies will help with decoding and comprehension skills. These are an excellent way to help new or struggling readers in kindergarten and first grade. Tracking Word for One-to-One Correspondence

Teaching students how to track words from left to right and use one-to-one correspondence is the first step in teaching them to read. By providing them with the ability to read the correct number of words on a page, we are preventing omissions and additions to sentences. This is the first step you should be taking with non-readers.

These cards are designed to help even non-readers be successful. All cards belong to a “pattern family,” meaning they follow the same pattern with only one-word variations. This allows the teacher to model the pattern and non-readers to practice reading it. The word that varies from card to card includes a picture clue, to help them decode it. Gold dots under each word act as a prompt for them to place their finger there. This is great practice for them as you plan to move into reading books with them. Additionally, this practice helps to train their brain to read from the left to the right on each page.

There are 53 different cards to work with.

Stretch and Blend Reading Cards

Stretchy Snake hands-on cards are the perfect way to practice stretching and blending sounds to help us read words. Students will build fluency with CVC words and digraphs all while having fun. These work for whole group lessons guided reading warm-ups, RTI groups, centers and more! Sounding out words is a critical component to reading. Help students understand how to do this with a fun and engaging activity.

There are 100 words to practice! Cards include CVC words and words with digraphs in both the beginning and end of the word.

How it Works:

*Students first preview the word in the upper left corner to see if they can read it.

*They then touch each snakehead and make the sound of the letter above

*Students then slide their finger along the arrow and practice blending the sounds to read the complete word
