Spider Math Sensory Bin
Sensory bins are always fun and create plenty of learning opportunities. Adding a theme makes them that much more exciting for children. One of my favorite themes for the month of October is spiders. In this Spider Math Sensory Bin, children will practice counting objects and identifying numbers 1-10.
Spider Math Materials
This sensory bin doesn’t require much. I’ll share with you what I used (most items are linked for you) to create this bin, but the possibilities for a spooky bin are really endless!
- Bin
- Dried black beans
- Orange pom poms in varying sizes
- Plastic spider rings
- Squishy eyeballs
- Jumbo tweezers (optional)
- Spider Sensory Bin Activity
Simply dump all of your sensory bin goodies into a bin and then place the web counting cards inside. I like to laminate my cards (for durability) and place velcro dots on the back. I place the opposite dot on the spider board.
Using Your Spider Math Sensory Bin
Students must pick a spider web card and count how many spiders they see. The cards have webs with one spider up to ten spiders.
When they fill their board they are done! This hands-on activity is great because it engages kids while also working on counting skills, subitizing, number identification and sequencing numbers.
